Edward Wayne Edwards (June 14, 1933 – April 7, 2011) was an American serial killer. He was a suspect in several high-profile murders, most famously the Zodiac Killer case, although this theory has been largely discredited.
Edwards maintained his innocence for years, building a persona as a reformed ex-con and even appearing on television and writing an autobiography, "Metamorphosis of a Criminal Mind," where he details his supposed turnaround. This public image was designed to mask his criminal activities.
His actual crimes began to come to light in 2009 after his son, Wayne Edwards, contacted police about a possible connection between his father and the 1980 murder of Tim Hack and Kelly Drew in Wisconsin.
Subsequent investigation, including a plea bargain and DNA evidence, linked him to the murders of Hack and Drew, as well as the 1977 murder of William Lavaco in Ohio and the 1996 murder of Danny Boy Edwards, his foster son, in Ohio. He confessed to these crimes and was sentenced to life in prison. He died in prison in 2011.
